Female Sexual Problems – Causes

There are complex and varied sexual problems in women and some of these problems started from simple problems. These problems can also be due to serious medical conditions, emotional problems and due to difficult life situations. There can be many other causes as well. The sexual problems in women can be due to following causes.

Relationship problems - there can be sexual problems due to childrearing, money and distribution of labor. The sexual harmony is affected by the issues of control and abuse. The sexual wants and needs of the women are prevented due to these problems.

Emotional problems – There can be some emotional problems like anxiety, depression, stress, and guilt which can affect the sexual needs of women.

Insufficient stimulation – the lack of knowledge about sex and sexual stimulation can also cause problems for women and they don’t achieve a satisfactory experience. The poor communication can also be cause of this problem.

Gynecologic problems – There can be pain in the intercourse due to pelvic disorders which can decrease satisfaction.

Vaginal dryness – the insufficient stimulation can be very common in younger women. The vaginal dryness in older women can be due to decrease in estrogen which occurs in menopause. The hormones imbalance can cause poor lubrication due to illness or certain medications. The intercourse can be uncomfortable due to these problems.

Vaginismus – the vaginal opening can tighten due to painful spasms of the muscales surrounding the vaginal opening. The penetration can become very painful due to it and it can also be due to injuries or scars from surgery. Infection, childbirth, irritation from douches and condoms can be causes of vaginsmus.

Sexually transmitted diseases – There are many infectious diseases like herpes, genital warts, syphilis and Chlamydia which can spread by sexual contact. There can be changes in the genitals with these diseases which can make sex uncomfortable.

Vaginitis – The intercourse can become uncomfortable or painful due to inflammation and irritation of the vaginal tissues.

The intercourse can also become painful due to pelvic mass, ovarian cyst, endometriosis and surgical scars.

Pelvic inflammatory disease – this infection of the vagina moves into the uterus, cervix and ovaries and make intercourse very painful.

Nerve damage after surgery and cutting of small nerves during pelvic surgery can decrease the sensation and response.

Physical conditions – the satisfaction of women in sex is decreased due to many physical conditions like tiredness, kidney disease, cancer, chronic disease, neurological disorders, menopause, hormonal imbalance, pregnancy and vascular disorders.

Alcohol or drug abuse

The desire or arousal is also decreased due to certain medications. The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor group of antidepressants has this effect which includes Zoloft and Prozac. Drugs for high blood pressure and antipsychotic medications can also cause these problems.

Other medical treatment s – the vaginal lubrication is reduced due to radiation therapy of certain types of cancer. The skin and membrane lining becomes tender and sensitive due to these treatments.

History of abuse – the women may have trouble in trusting her partner to become aroused if they have suffered any sexual or other abuse. The satisfaction is also reduced due to fear, guilt or resentment.

Attitude towards sex – there are many people who don’t see sex as normal due to their earlier bad experiences and they associate the sexual activity with shame, fear or guilt. These people might also have unrealistic expectations about sex. The people may also mislead due to portray of sex in movies and television.

There can be less sexual satisfaction in women if their partner has sexual problems like impotence and lack of desire.
